CELEBRATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL WITH YOUNG GIRLS IN TOLE

To enhance the knowledge of 35 young girls on theme of the International day of the girl child 2023

Knowledge of 35 young girls enhanced with a strong community network of young girls built in Tole

Results:

35 young girls were educated on the following topics;

  • Why the celebration of the International day of the girl child
  • The theme of the day: Invest in Girls right: Our leadership, our well-being
  • Menstrual Hygiene Management
  • Sexual Reproductive Health Rights

Pre assessment: From the questions asked it was realized that 0% of young girls of Tole do not what the International Day is and why the celebration. From the above topics it was clear 35% have little knowledge on MHM and SRHR. This was noticed from the definitions they gave which was very precise; “MHM is how we take care of our bodies during menstruation” “SH is taken care of oneself physically, emotionally and mentally”.

35 young girls in Tole made up of girls of girls not going to school and teenage mothers were educated on the above topics.

The Tole young girls were encourage to decide their future now and work towards achieving it. After the educative talks the young girls designed a problem tree for their community stating the possible causes and proposing relevant solutions to foster development and inclusiveness of young girls in Tole

Post assessment: 95% of the young girls in Tole confidently knew what the international day of the girl child is and why it is celebrated every year on the 11th of October. From the educative talks 96% can proudly educate other girls on MH and SRHR.

Relevance It is important to give girls the opportunity to lead by putting them in the forefront of change efforts; hearing their voices, responding to them and welcoming them in decision making spaces. There is an urgent need to increase attention and resourcing for the key areas that enable girls realize their rights and achieve their full potential. International days are set to educate the public on issues, mobilize political resources to address global problems, celebrate and reinforce achievement of humanity.
